Two Questions About Copying

Hello All,

I have a pre-defined excel format, which I need to convert to DOORS. I am doing it all with VBA and DXL.
I have a formal module in DOORS, in which I have my views and some objects that I want to copy using DXL (after many actions made by DXL).

1. How can I automatically copy one or more objects (including tables) from one module which is not opened to the current module?

2. How can I automatically copy/import a view from a module, so I will have the same attributes shown in the current module (I have the same attributes list in both)?
thank you very much!

1. You would need to open the source module first, before you can copy the objects.

1+2: You can use the copyops.inc and copyview.inc library, that ships with DOORS (lib/dxl/utils). They have functions for copying objects and views.

thank you.

Apparently we don't have these .dlx files in our organization... so,

1) Is there a way to copy an object when the source module is open (and is there a function to open a module?)

2) any other way to copy / apply a view from another module?

I assume that you are new to DOORS given that you recently joined this forum.

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to your request.
You need to use the DOORS DXL library functions in order to write DXL programs.

DXL programming takes time to learn.

If your need is time critical, you may benefit from a DXL training class from IBM.

I would be surprised if your PC did not have copyops.inc and copyview.inc installed.
(see the attached pdf file)
Look at you PC in something similar to
C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.2\lib\dxl\utils
where 9.2 happens to be the DOORS version number. You may have a different version.

The *.inc and *.dxl files are the library files used by DOORS to present the user experience.
They are text files.

DO NOT CHANGE THEM!

You can look at them to learn more about DOORS.
You can copy them to create your own DXLs.
You can access them from your own DXL scripts.

The
C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.2\lib\dxl\example
folder is also an interesting learning space.

You can go to
Help->DXL REference Manual
from any DOORS menu bar to learn about DOORS.

You can go to
Tools-> DXL Library...
to browse the DXL library.

You can also search this forum.

You can also Google "DOORS copy object"

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

I am pretty sure, that these DXL files are available - as I said they come with DOORS. So you need to look in the DOORS installation path under %DOORSHOME%/lib/dxl/utils and search for the two files, that include code which you can use to copy objects and views from a DXL script. But this assumes you want to write your own DXL script to accomplish this task. I am struggeling with the question about a function for opening a module ... From this question it seems like you might be happy with existing scripts.

There are prebuilt View Copying Scripts, in this forum or for example on the galactic solutions website:
http://galactic-solutions.com/GalacticDownloads.htm

You can use the "Copy Objects" script from the DOORS Module Tools Menu to copy selected objects from one module to another. You can choose the attributes to be copied in this script. By the way: The script uses the functions of the mentioned copyops.inc file.

Hope this helps, Regards, Mathias
